This massive reef north of Ma’alaea is over 1,000 acres in size and has corals over 1,500 years old. Olowalu is special for many reasons, most notably for its turtle cleaning station and mass production of coral polyps. Snorkeling Olowalu is some of the very best on Maui!
After working up an appetite in the water, you are served a BBQ chicken lunch grilled by your captain and crew— dine at leisure and relax out in the sun as we serve you cold beverages from our premium bar.
*If weather prevents us from exploring Olowalu, we will choose the next best location.
Fun Fact: Reefs begin when a polyp attaches itself to a rock on the sea floor, then divides, or buds, into thousands of clones. The polyps connect to one another, creating a colony that acts as a single organism. As colonies grow over hundreds and thousands of years, they join with other colonies and become reefs! Olowalu is called the “mother reef” because it’s responsible for starting many of the reefs on Maui, Molokai, Lana’i, & Kaho’olawe.
